Best Time to Go on a Croatia Cruise

If you’re trying to pick when to sail Croatia, the short answer is that the small ship cruise season runs from late April to late October, and most regular travellers reckon September gives the best balance of warm weather, swimmable sea, smaller crowds, and slightly easier prices. June is a close second.

Most cruises run Saturday to Saturday, so the real question is which week of which month suits you best. Here’s how each part of the season plays out.

The History of Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik is included on almost all of our Croatia cruises and Croatia tours — and for good reason. Few places in Europe pack so much character into such a compact space. The Old Town is entirely walkable, the city walls are among the best-preserved in the world, and the story behind it all goes back more than 1,300 years.

If you only want the short version: Dubrovnik is the walled coastal city at the southern end of Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, founded in the 7th century, known historically as Ragusa, and listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site since 1979. A typical visit involves walking the city walls, exploring the Old Town along the Stradun, and ideally getting up to Mount Srđ for the view. Most of our one-way cruises either start or finish here.

Top 5 reasons to book with Discover Croatia

1. Specialists in Croatia and the Balkans since 2007.
Croatia and the surrounding region are all we’ve ever sold. We know the ships, the operators, the routes, and the ports first-hand.

2. Talk to an Australian expert who knows the products. Most people call when the cruises and ships start to look similar, and they want to talk through the differences with someone who’s seen them, during Australian business hours. No offshore call centre. No chatbots.

3. Choice across multiple Croatian operators. We work with a broad selection of Croatian cruise and tour operators, so you can compare options across companies in one place — and we can recommend what suits you personally.

4. Independently reviewed on Trustpilot. Our reviews come from real Australian customers — genuine, recent feedback you can read before you book.

5. An Australian-registered, IATA-affiliated business. ABN and IATA TIDS registration. Pay in Australian dollars, or in other currencies if you prefer.
