This eight-day one-way cycling cruise travels from Corfu down to Athens, threading the green Ionian Islands together with the mainland's Gulf of Corinth and its celebrated ancient sites, aboard a two-masted motor sailer. Running in a single direction, it builds from quiet island days towards the grand finale of the Corinth Canal and the temples of Aegina. From Corfu the yacht sails to Paxos, smallest of the seven Ionian islands and shimmering silver-green under its dense olive groves, ringed on a morning ride. Lefkas follows, crossed by its fascinating mountain roads to lively Nidri, with the once-private island of Skorpios in view. A crossing to Ithaca brings a ride across the rugged island long tied to the myth of Odysseus, before a longer sail to Mesolongi in the Corinthian Gulf. From here a shore excursion reaches medieval Nafpaktos and then Delphi, where Apollo was worshipped and the oracle consulted beneath Mount Parnassus. Early the next day comes the highlight passage through the Corinth Canal, a narrow six-kilometre channel first planned in antiquity and completed in 1893, before the route reaches Aegina, famed across Greece for its pistachios, with a coastal ride to the fishing port of Perdika and a climb to the temple of Aphaia. A final crossing returns to Athens. Daily rides run to roughly 35 kilometres over hilly ground, suited to regular cyclists, with the boat close by for swimming or a restful day aboard. The appeal lies in the contrast: unspoiled, Venetian-influenced islands early in the week, then a crescendo of mainland history and the theatrical canal passage as you near the capital. It is a scenery-and-culture-rich one-way voyage across the breadth of western Greece.
