This eight-day cycling cruise sets out from Athens and traces a wide loop through two very different corners of the Aegean: the sun-bleached Cyclades and the greener, history-soaked Saronic Gulf. Over a week of riding and sailing you cross to Kythnos, prized since antiquity for its cheese and honey, and climb to its hillside capital of Chora with its flower-painted lanes. On Seriphos you follow serpentine roads up to a cube-house town clinging to the ridge, and visit the Byzantine monastery of the Archangel Michael before the boat carries you on to Syros, where the pastel, neoclassical capital of Ermoupolis rewards an evening stroll along its harbour promenade. Kea, the north-westernmost of the group, offers a climb to Ioulis and a swim at Otzias beach before you turn towards the Saronic islands. The second half of the week shifts in mood. Poros, once dedicated to the sea god Poseidon, is almost circled by bike and crowned by its landmark clock tower. Aegina, famous across Greece for its pistachios, brings the ride up to the beautifully preserved temple of Aphaia, set on the one point of the island from which the Aegean can be seen on both sides, and past the monastery of Saint Nektarios on the way back down. Days average roughly 25 to 35 kilometres over hilly, sometimes mountainous terrain, with e-bikes making the climbs approachable for regular riders. Nights are spent aboard a comfortable motor yacht, with meals prepared from local produce and quiet harbours to explore each evening. It is an active, scenic week that pairs archaeology, island architecture and clear-water swim stops in equal measure.
Route: Athens - Kythnos - Seriphos - Syros - Kea - Poros - Aegina - Athens
