An independent tour, 2 nights from Opatija to Venice, departing every Wednesday and Saturday from April to October. There is no group: hotels, transfers and taxes are arranged and you travel at your own pace. This Opatija to Venice tour via Istria spends both nights inside Istria, the peninsula most cruise passengers only glimpse. Straight off the ship you head an hour inland to the hill towns of the interior, Motovun or Buzet, where the oak forests below produce the truffles you taste on arrival, and you stay in the region rather than commuting to it. The full day that follows covers the Istrian coast: the Pula Colosseum, one of the best-preserved Roman arenas anywhere and still used for concerts, then a guided walk through Rovinj's Venetian lanes. It ends with a road transfer into Venice, roughly three hours. Pick this over the Trogir route to go deep into one region rather than cover distance.

After checking out from your ship in Opatija, head inland towards central Istria, a drive of around an hour. Visit one of the picturesque hilltop towns, such as Motovun or Buzet, both known for their charm and their rich truffle heritage, pausing during the visit to enjoy some regional truffle flavours. Overnight in Istria.

Istrian Peninsula excursion - Pula and RovinjB

After breakfast, explore the highlights of the Istrian Peninsula, starting with the ancient Pula Colosseum, one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world. Continue to Rovinj, a picturesque coastal town known for its Venetian architecture and narrow cobblestone streets. Overnight in Istria.
