An independent tour, 2 nights from Trogir to Venice, departing every Wednesday and Saturday from April to October. There is no group: hotels, transfers and taxes are arranged and you travel at your own pace. This Split to Venice tour via Istria is the alternative to flying home from Split, and a chance to see from land the coast you sailed past. It opens with a guided walk through Zadar to the Roman Forum, the ninth-century church of St Donatus and the Sea Organ, the seafront instrument played by the waves. Both nights are in Opatija on Kvarner Bay, and the full day between crosses into Istria for Rovinj, the pastel harbour town below St Euphemia's bell tower, then inland for a truffle tasting and a hill town such as Motovun or Buzet. It ends with a road transfer into Venice, so you fly out of Italy rather than backtracking.

After your cruise, continue north to Zadar, a coastal gem known for its Roman Forum and the world-famous Sea Organ. A guided walking tour of Zadar is followed by the drive to Opatija, a seaside resort often called the cradle of Croatian tourism, known for its Lungomare promenade. Overnight in Opatija.

Istria - Rovinj, truffles and hilltop townsB

After breakfast, head for the Istrian Peninsula and the town of Rovinj, considered one of the most beautiful in Istria and known for its romantic atmosphere and the story of St Euphemia. Continue into central Istria for a truffle tasting and a visit to a hilltop town such as Motovun or Buzet. Overnight in Opatija.
