This eight-day one-way cycling cruise follows the ancient Lycian coast from Bodrum southeast to Fethiye, aboard a traditional wooden gulet that moves to a new anchorage almost every day. Travelling in a single direction, the route unfolds as a continuous journey along one of Turkey's most beautiful and history-rich shorelines, linking archaeological sites, dramatic canyons and secluded bays. From Bodrum the first ride crosses the Datca peninsula, climbing to around 450 metres, with the Greek islands of Nisyros, Tilos and Rhodes visible on a clear day, before descending to the ruins of Knidos. Onward days take in a fifteen-hundred-year-old plane tree in a mountain village on the Bozburun peninsula, the quiet bay of Ciftlik, and a healing mud bath near Lake Koycegiz before a small boat carries you past the famous Lycian rock-cut tombs of the Dalyan delta. At Kaunos you walk an important ancient port city now stranded inland, then ride across the fertile Dalaman plains of cotton fields and orchards to the bay of Sarsala. Near Fethiye the route passes Gemiler, the island of Saint Nicholas, and the poignant abandoned village of Kayakoy, before a final day up to the spectacular Saklikent Canyon and the Lycian city of Tlos. Daily rides run to roughly 27 to 49 kilometres over demanding, mountainous terrain on rough but quiet roads, suited to fit, experienced cyclists, with e-bikes and gravel bikes available. Nights are spent aboard the gulet in sheltered bays and lively harbour towns, with meals from the on-board galley and plenty of swim stops in clear water. Ending in the bustling harbour of Fethiye with its bazaar and old town, it is a rich, one-directional ride through classical antiquity and wild coastal scenery.
Route: Bodrum, Kormen, Knidos, Serce Limani, Ciftlik, Ekincik, Kaunos, Dalaman, Sarsala Bay, Gemiler, Fethiye
